kokomo是美国哪个城市?
是夏威夷的一个海滩,不是城市哦。 KOKO MO means “a good place to live.” The name Kokomo is the creation of a real estate developer who dreamed up an island community in 1970 that would be known as “the last resort on earth” and where people can “live like kings.” He chose this name because he thought it sounded exotic, and also had a certain ring to it when said aloud (something that was important since they were marketing this place for telephone calls). He didn't want to use the word “Resort”—he figured there are already enough resorts out there—so he called his project by its own name:Kokomo.
The first homes in Kokomo were built in 1972, with the first lot being sold just two years later in 1974. By then, roads、schools、and shopping centers were under construction, and the population had grown to about 6,000. While many of these initial residents were from the mainland US, some were actually from Hawaii, having chosen to leave their home state behind in order to take advantage of lower taxes and less stringent building codes. Many of those who stayed on the islands worked at nearby Marine Corps Base,Honolulu;while others operated small businesses or farms. For example, one farmer grew pineapples and used his harvest to start an industrial-scale canning operation right in town, which provided jobs to locals until the plant closed down decades later.
Today,Kokomo has a population over 35,000,although once you add in all the second homeowners and tourists,it’s more like half a million! It's still seen as a nice place to raise kids, with good schools and plenty of open space. There are lots of activities for families, including an annual sand sculpture contest in which thousands of visitors come to check out the creative designs and cool sculptures that artists from around the world build along the beach every summer.
In the center of town, you'll find one of the most unique hotels I have ever seen:the Hilton Waikoloa Village,a collection of overpriced luxury bungalows on stilts above the surf, complete with a spa and several restaurants. For a true taste of old Hawai‘i,head just beyond the hotel and into the surrounding neighborhoods, where you'll find that much of the
